Baby and childrens’ swimming classes, Spain

At swim bebé swim our baby and childrens’ swimming classes use natural teaching methods to enable your child to swim whenever they are physically and emotionally ready. Each course encourages your child’s natural swimming abilities until they learn to swim unaided. Our youngest unaided swimmer to date is two years and three months!

So what are you waiting for? Contact your nearest swim bebé swim location to reserve your place on the next baby swimming class.

Methods

We do not use armbands, rather you support your child in the water which not only builds their water confidence but also allows great bonding time for you and child as you share in learning this new fun activity together.

All our classes incorporate safety aspects too. Learning how to behave properly in water, how to listen to a teacher or mimic a parent’s actions, are life skills which may one day save your
child’s life.

Natural reflexes

Up to one year old, a baby’s body has natural reflexes as used in the womb, which enable them to swim easily in water. If these reflexes are not used, then they are lost and have to be learned at a later stage in the child’s development.

No armbands

At swim bebé swim a parent/helper is in the pool with the child to support them in the various swim positions. This enables them to learn quickly how their body floats and moves in water, and promotes early swimming.

Safety is paramount!

At swim bebé swim safety skills are as important as swimming skills. Each child learns how to behave appropriately in and around water and to listen to their parent/helper in a water environment. Before they can swim independently, children know how to hold onto the poolside or a swim aid, how to get into and out of the pool safely and how to control their breathing under the water. These skills can be lifesaving in an accident situation.

Structured courses

The 5-week courses introduce new skills every week and build on the skills learned in the previous weeks. Courses are structured to be appropriate for the capabilities of the child at that particular age. Babies stage – up to one year old, toddler stage –from one to two year old, 2 year olds and 3 year olds. When one course finishes, another course, the next level up is available, right up until children are swimming independently.

Internationally recognised awards

swim bebé swim offers children the chance to participate in the Swim Teachers Association (STA) award scheme. These awards are integrated into the appropriate 5‑week courses and each child receives a badge and certificate on successful completion of each award.

Benefits of Baby Swim

Babies who develop swimming abilities are often more alert for their age, with a better eating and sleeping pattern.

Swimming allows babies and toddlers to move independently long before they are able to crawl or walk. This contributes to sound motor development and improves the function of skeletal muscles.

Infant aquacise can also be therapeutic, helping babies to develop muscles symmetrically on both sides of the body. It is particularly beneficial for premature babies as it helps them recapture stages of motor development that they have missed.

Early swimming helps to round and develop a baby’s personality and is a wonderful way of parent/child bonding and confidence‑building.

Toddler and early years swimming

When a child becomes more mobile on land, safety around and in the pool becomes an increasingly important issue. At this stage it is important to learn key safety skills and nurture behaviour which can save lives. If a child is familiar with water, used to going under and moving in water, is able to turn around towards the edge of the water they have fallen into, has floating skills etc, then their chances of surviving an accident are much greater.
The overall emphasis is on encouraging free movement in the water, which will lead to swimming as soon as babies and toddlers are physically and emotionally ready.
